Hacksaw ridge - Spiderman pulls a Batman

Hacksaw ridge, directed by Mel Gibson is a war movie filmed based on the true story of Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield). This movie got everyone pumped up because of the awesome trailer and it more than lived up to our expectations. This movie starts of by showing us Doss's childhood incidents and his motivation to not touch a gun even in the battlefield. Desmond Doss is a sergeant who was raised by a Christian family and he believes that it's not right to kill someone. He stands by his principles and his values which make him such a lovable character. The romance between him and Dorothy is so beautiful and the two had outstanding chemistry between them. The war sequences here were some of the best ever put to the big screen. I was able to enjoy it more being a fan of the old call of duty games. Mel Gibson proves that he's got so much left in him and this is very much a huge comeback film for him. The take home message for me was that it's important to have faith in our beliefs, the world we live in right now has too much peer pressure and there's a handful of people who stand out and believe in principles and values. No matter what the world does, no matter how cliched they are, no matter what anybody else thinks about our values or principles, it's important for us to hold on to them because they define who we are and the kind of person we're going to become. It was a wake-up call for me to show more faith in my values and not give them up so easily. Little did I know that the awkward, stuttering Peter Parker is one day going to come up with an Oscar worthy performance. Hats off to Mel Gibson hats off the Desmond Doss's dad, another powerful performance overshadowed by other brilliant performances.
9.3/10
This could very well challenge Saving Private Ryan in being the best war movie of all time.

Split- Shyamalan's comeback

Split, directed by M Night Shyamalan, the Mallu Hollywood director who was going through a rough patch the past few years. This movie was lead by James McAvoy who suffers from multiple personality disorder, with 23 different personalities. Always been a fan of McAvoy especially after his performance in 'Wanted' and the 'X-Men' series. McAvoy has given his very best performance so far an this kind of performance deserves atleast an Oscar or a Golden Globe nomination. The movie is paced like any other Shyamalan movie, but this had kind of like a horror like element attached to it which made it even more enjoyable with the jump scares and all. Overall it's a decent watch, definitely an comeback for Shyamalan, we expect better movies from him hereafter. This is no masterpiece but you have got to watch it just for McAvoy's performance.

Verdict: 7.8/10

It felt great to see Shyamalan getting back to form, he's had a very tough time and things have only gone downhill for him but I just hope that this is the icebreaker and he can keep giving us great movies.

La La Land - Magical, stunning, spectacular...

La La Land, being a fan of action and comic book genre, romance was not my cup of tea. But the constant ascend of imdb ratings had my curiosity at its peak. I didn't know much other than the fact that Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone starred in it. The very first scene got me hooked because I admire the long camera shots and appretiate the efforts taken to get it on camera. I've never really seen any movie where the lighting was used as professionally as this. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were at their very best and their chemistry seemed so natural. This is the kind of movie that stays in people's hearts and DVD sets for decades and is right up there with 'Titanic' and 'Sound of music'. It was only later when I came to know that it was directed by Damien Chazelle, the same guy who directed 'Whiplash', another masterpiece. The music was so heartwarming and professional, people are going to be obsessed with the soundtrack for quite some time, don't know about the other songs but its on my playlist now. 'Fools who dream', 'City of stars' and 'Another day of sun' stood apart but the rest of the songs were equally magical. My only disappointment was the fact that JK Simmons didn't have a bigger role. I wish people made more movies like this.

Verdict:
9.1/10 and a sin to miss it in theatres.
